The MUNA Hosts the Virtuosity of Filó Machado with a Concert and a Brazilian Music Workshop

Councillor José Carlos Acha Encourages the Public to Join These Free Events Filled with “Samba, Bossa Nova, and Choro Rhythms in a Dual Cultural Encounter with the Filó Machado Band”

The MUSA 2025 Festival Offers a Concert and a Free Masterclass Led by Legendary Brazilian Musician Filó Machado on 5 and 6 September

The MUSA Festival, now in its twelfth edition, continues this weekend with two vibrant activities brimming with music and colour, reinforcing the role of the Tenerife Museum of Nature and Archeology (MUNA) as a cultural meeting place and experimental hub focused on Brazil.

The MUNA will once again be the epicentre of Brazilian culture with the visit of the Filó Machado Band, a sextet led by the legendary guitarist, singer, and songwriter Filó Machado. He is a pivotal figure in Brazilian music, boasting over six decades of career experience and multiple Latin Grammy nominations.

The Councillor for Culture, Museums, and Sports at the Tenerife Cabildo, José Carlos Acha, emphasises that “the presence of Filó Machado and his band at the MUNA is an opportunity to enjoy a concert of the highest quality, fostering a space for learning and cultural dialogue.” He added, “The fusion of Brazilian musical tradition with the local scene enriches and strengthens our connections with other cultures.”

He thus encourages the public to partake in these free events filled with “samba, bossa nova, and choro rhythms in a dual cultural encounter with the Filó Machado Band.”

The programme includes a live concert on Friday, 5 September, at 21:00, on the specially designed stage in one of the museum’s courtyards, with free entry until full capacity is reached (tickets available online two days in advance from 10:00). Machado will be joined by musicians from his family and artistic circle, including his son Sergio Machado on drums and his grandson Felipe Machado on guitar and vocals. The performance will blend jazz, bossa nova, and samba, promising virtuosity and emotion.

The following day, Saturday 6 September, the band will offer an exclusive music training masterclass, with sessions at 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00, also free of charge. In these workshops, the musicians will share their knowledge of key Brazilian rhythms such as samba, bossa nova, baião, and choro, addressing specific technical aspects of each instrument and exploring fusion possibilities with Canarian music.

All activities are free until the planned capacity is reached, so those interested in attending can check program details on the Tenerife Museums website (click HERE).
