Concern Over Rising Crime Rates in Fuerteventura
The Popular Party of Fuerteventura has expressed deep concern regarding the latest crime statistics, which reveal a significant increase in criminal offences on the island during the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Overall, conventional crime rose by 16.45%, from 2,918 to 3,398 cases. The number of thefts surged by 37.82%, from 833 to 1,148, while total criminal offences increased by 11.39% (from 3,539 to 3,942).

This situation calls for measures, coordination, and an immediate response from the Government of Spain. It is urgent to continue strengthening staffing, increase police presence in high-traffic areas, coordinate actions between administrations, and provide better tools to the security forces to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
Severe Crime Statistics in La Oliva
In the municipality of La Oliva, the figures are even more alarming: conventional crime increased by 29.99% (from 747 to 971 cases), thefts rose by 30.65% (from 310 to 405), and total criminal offences rose by 20.5% (from 873 to 1,052). The spokesperson for the Popular Group in La Oliva, José Vicente Calero, warns that “our municipality is experiencing a concerning rise in crime. The Popular Party demands more human and material resources to reach the staffing ratio that our population requires, as we suffer from a significant personnel deficit on the island.” Since 2021, unions and police associations have indicated that Fuerteventura requires at least 80 to 100 additional Guardia Civil officers and around 30 more from the National Police, yet no significant progress has been made.
The Government Delegation is not the PSOE headquarters
The Popular Party also reminds that it cannot be overlooked that Fuerteventura is a tourist island, which means that security provisions must account not only for the resident population but also for the transient population.
In this regard, the PP views positively the Interior Ministry’s establishment of a commander position for the Guardia Civil in Fuerteventura. However, they believe that the announcements made in the press today “are the result of a meeting held at the State’s Insular Directorate in Fuerteventura exclusively among PSOE members, once again exploiting public institutions for the benefit of Sánchez’s agenda. It is an unprecedented announcement for the promotion of local and municipal candidates,” the PP states.
The Popular Party of Fuerteventura reiterates that public safety must be an island priority, one that should not be manipulated by administrations, and demands immediate action from the central Government to curb the rise in crime in Fuerteventura.
