Essential Transport Services Maintained During Upcoming Bus Strike in Lanzarote

Essential services will continue to operate, including priority routes connecting key locations such as hospitals, transport stations, and educational centres. Adapted frequency during peak hours is also guaranteed.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has issued a resolution in response to the strike notice presented by the Federation of Services to Citizens of CCOO Canarias, which affects regular intercity public transport services in the province. The resolution establishes essential minimum services to ensure the mobility of the population on the 15th and 16th of September.

The institution, through its Transport and Mobility Office, has set minimum services at 70% of the total scheduled routes “to regulate the strike situation affecting employees of Arrecife Bus SL. The strike will take place on the 15th and 16th of September 2025, and will subsequently continue with intermittent stoppages during the hours of 06:00 to 10:00, and 17:00 to 21:00, until the conflict is resolved, affecting the staff of the aforementioned company,” the resolution states.

It is considered that “the determination of minimum services at the specified percentage respects the appropriate constitutional balance between conflicting rights.”

During the strike, essential services will remain operational, including priority routes connecting key locations on the island such as hospitals, transport stations, and educational centres. Adapted frequency during peak hours is also guaranteed, ensuring service availability during critical moments; as well as support for vulnerable groups such as individuals with reduced mobility, who will be able to access transport under safe conditions.

The objective of this proposal by the island institution is to minimise the impact on citizens, especially those who rely on public transport for essential activities.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote is working closely with the transport company to ensure compliance with minimum services. Moreover, it appeals for the understanding and patience of the public in light of any possible inconveniences that the strike may cause.
