On Tuesday, the formal presentation took place, attended by the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suárez, and the Vice-President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso

More than 163 companies, nearly ninety exhibitors, twenty-two talks, and 35 activities, are among the remarkable figures of an event that promises to exceed all expectations

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Canary Islands Government, Poli Suárez, and the Vice-President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso, officially presented ExpoDeca 2025, the Canary Islands Fair for Physical Activity and Sport, which will take place from 2nd to 5th October at the Tenerife Fairgrounds.

This event, which is set to be the most significant gathering within the sports industry this autumn in the islands, will bring together hundreds of professionals, entities, and organisations from various sectors related to sport, while also offering a place for leisure and enjoyment for all citizens, who can attend and participate in the programme throughout the four days of the fair completely free of charge.

Regarding the imminent arrival of this event, Poli Suárez emphasised that “ExpoDeca is much more than a fair; it is a reflection of the strength of Canary Island sports, showcasing its ability to unite businesses, clubs, federations, and institutions around a common goal: to improve the health and well-being of the public.” In this sense, he explained that “we want these four days in Tenerife to be a celebration of sport, a showcase of our identity, and an opportunity to boost a sector that generates employment, wealth, and social cohesion in the Canary Islands.”

Meanwhile, the Vice-President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Lope Afonso, detailed that “From the Cabildo of Tenerife, especially from the area of Sports, we have worked intensively to ensure this edition serves as a true showcase of the potential our island has in sports: not just due to our infrastructure or events, but also through programmes promoting an active, healthy, and inclusive culture. ExpoDeca is not just a fair; it is a meeting point, a space to inspire, share, and continue building a future where sport and physical activity are at the centre of our public policies.”

Afonso also added, “I would like to invite all citizens to visit the Fairgrounds from 2nd to 5th October, to enjoy the activities and, above all, to join this movement that perfectly summarises our motto: Activate Your Life.”

With less than a week until it begins, a total of 163 companies and entities have already confirmed their participation in the fair, of which 86 will have their own space, including private operators, public administrations, federations, and sports clubs. Moreover, the academic and informative programme will include twenty-two conferences, forums, and presentations, complemented by over thirty adapted sports activities for all ages and fitness levels.

In the sporting aspect, about 35 demonstrations and competitions have been scheduled, with a special focus on inclusive sports and traditional Canary Island games and sports. The latter will have a prominent space within the venue, reinforcing the presence of one of the strategic lines of the Canary Islands Government regarding physical activity: the promotion and dissemination of the cultural and sporting heritage of the archipelago.

Notable highlights of this edition include the first final of the Canary Islands Urban Dance Championship, which will be held during ExpoDeca 2025. This competition will bring together the best performers from the Tenerife Weekend Urban Dance and the Gran Canaria Urban Dance Meeting, who will compete on a common stage for the regional title on Saturday 4th at 11:00 in the Grand Hall. In total, around 750 dancers will participate in this unprecedented event in the islands, reinforcing the commitment of the event to integrate new cultural expressions linked to sport and physical activity, showcasing the young talent of the Canary Islands.

The celebration of this second edition reflects the Canary Islands Government’s commitment to respond to the growth of a booming sector in the islands. Currently, the Canary Islands have more than 2,600 companies linked to sport, and it is estimated that over 20,000 people work in this field, a figure that illustrates how sport has solidified not only as an essential part of daily life for citizens but also as a strategic engine for the Canary Islands’ economy.

ExpoDeca, promoted by the Canary Islands Government through the Sports Department and organised by the Sports Department of the Cabildo of Tenerife via the public company Ideco, is supported by Foundation DISA, Coca-Cola, Powerade, Binter, and Grupo Ybarra. Furthermore, the event will receive backing from the foundations of CD Tenerife, UD Las Palmas, Dinosol, and Cantera Base Canaria.

Talks and Conferences

The fair will feature a diverse agenda of conferences, discussions, and presentations. Across four days, leading experts in sport, health, education, and business will share their experiences and insights. The area dedicated to talks and forums is sponsored by Foundation DISA, which reinforces its commitment to inclusion, equality, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles in the Canary Islands.

Among the speakers are renowned figures such as journalists Olga Viza and Paloma del Río, leaders in sports communication in Spain, along with doctor Antonio Ramos Gordillo, a specialist in sports medicine, who will provide their perspectives on the present and future challenges of the sector.

Additionally, the presence of the president of the Sports and Leisure Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Alejandro Navarro; the president of the Spanish Sports Association, José Hidalgo; and the directors-general of five autonomous communities will enrich the ExpoDeca experience, offering a diverse programme to make the event a space for meeting and reflection.

Sporting Programme

The Tenerife Fairgrounds will provide a multitude of sporting activities spread across three main areas: the Grand Hall located on the upper floor, the multipurpose room on the ground floor, and the outdoor area on the terraces of the pavilion.

The multipurpose room will host activities like pickleball, table tennis, and over thirty hours of guided physical activities, designed to cater to different ages, physical conditions, and experience levels. Group sessions such as indoor cycling, Zumba, Body Combat, and Latin dances will aim to enhance cardiovascular endurance and overall fitness.

Furthermore, the activity schedule will also include options focused on muscle toning and body strengthening, such as BodyPump, GAP, Body Power, and functional training. Additionally, low-impact activities aimed at improving posture, relaxation, and mindfulness will be offered, including Pilates, Tai Chi, Body Balance, and Flow, providing a comprehensive range of options for those seeking conscious and tailored physical activity.

A significant part of this area will be made possible thanks to support from brands such as Beats, Vivagym, GoFit, and Arasti Barca.

In the Grand Hall, sports activities such as volleyball, CrossFit, with the Iberian Throwdown competition as the main attraction, martial arts, climbing, paddle, Canarian wrestling, popular sports, fencing, gymnastics, badminton, urban dances, and boccia will take place, as part of the activity programme promoted by the Canary Islands Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities.

Lastly, in the outdoor area, activities will include basketball, football, bola canaria, shepherd’s jump, cycling, squash, and OCR obstacle races.

Traditional Games and Sports

The fair has made a clear commitment to the dissemination, practice, and protection of the traditional games and sports of the archipelago, with Grupo Ybarra as the official collaborator at ExpoDeca 2025. Vernacular modalities will feature prominently in the programme, establishing them as a central axis of this significant event for the regional sports sector.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of demonstrations, competitions, and participatory activities centred around iconic disciplines such as Canarian wrestling, bola, shepherd’s jump, plough lifting, and traditional sailing. This programme aims to engage all audiences and highlight the importance of these practices as cultural heritage and a symbol of identity for the eight islands.

For Everyone

The event will offer a comprehensive programme of activities for children and young people aged three to twenty, including psychomotricity workshops, sports such as badminton and mini hockey, agility circuits, and functional training for teenagers. It will also feature a free play area for younger family members aged between five and ten, with monitors facilitating sports-themed games and crafts to make attendance easier for families.

In this way, ExpoDeca 2025 is established as an open and participatory space for all ages, where the public can enjoy, learn, and share around sport. All detailed information about the programme and activities is available on the official event website.
