San Lorenzo dressed up to celebrate the ‘Memorial Antonio Martel and Lorenzo Suárez’, in its 15th edition. This event took place this Sunday, during which the Romero and Romera Mayor of the 2025 festivities were chosen; these roles went to Fernando Santana and Neisha Ajwani, representatives of San Lorenzo and Tamaraceite, respectively.

The gala, which took place in a festive, cultural, and traditional atmosphere, was masterfully conducted by Patricia Muñoz, as noted in the press release. The event featured standout performances from the Agrupación Folclórica Flor Canaria del Atlántico, singer Felipe Mateo, Alba Pérez, and Patricia Muñoz herself, who delighted the audience with an exquisite repertoire of Canarian music. This was all part of the show ‘Tenerife, island with soul’, directed by Arhamis González, which captivated attendees with a special tribute to Tenerife for its defence and conservation of traditions, in an overture that involved about 50 people.

Twelve candidates from various towns and neighbourhoods of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria participated in the gala. Over the span of an hour and a half, they demonstrated their commitment and passion for folk traditions, culture, and the most traditional attire of our islands.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria collaborated in the organisation of this event, which also received sponsorship from Casitas Canarias. “As recognition for their effort and dedication, the winners were gifted a weekend in one of their rural houses,” stated the press release.

“The Memorial Antonio Martel and Lorenzo Suárez was not only a celebration of our cultural roots, but also a platform for the promotion and preservation of Canarian folk heritage, especially among younger generations,” concluded the statement.
