This morning, the Noble Hall of the Cabildo de Tenerife hosted the launch of the nineteenth edition of the International Clownbaret Festival, taking place from 29th September to 2nd October across 12 municipalities in the Canary Islands. This established event in the network of national clown and circus festivals will feature a total of 88 performances and activities this year.
The presentation event was attended by José Carlos Acha, Councillor for Culture, Museums, and Sports of the Cabildo de Tenerife; Cristóbal de la Rosa, General Director of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries of the Government of the Canary Islands; José Manuel Bermúdez, Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, Councillor for Culture, Sports, and Education of Adeje; Coraima Afonso Navarro, Special Delegate Councillor for Education and Early Childhood of Adeje; Dailos González, Councillor for Fiestas of La Laguna; and the festival’s artistic director, Brian Rodríguez.
The International Clownbaret Festival, FIC 2025, opens its doors from 29th September to 2nd October, boasting a programme that spans the Canary Islands with 88 performances and activities from a total of 21 companies. This includes international talents such as Wes Peden, Fred Blin, Leo Bassi, Anatoli Akerman, Karcocha, and Cía. Jimena Cavalletti; alongside national acts like Cia. Curolles, Karcocha, Pau Palaus, Fer Catastrofer, Los Infoncundibles, La Fatal Compañía, Cía. Circusband, Leo Bassi, Cía. Jimena Cavalletti, and Yiyolo Stratto. The line-up also features local groups Clownbaret and Watones Locos.
This edition of FIC 2025 reinforces the themes of social inclusion and sustainability through its associated activities, extending beyond the streets, theatres, and squares of the Canary Islands to reach those in greatest need. Through Social Clowns, FIC brings joy and laughter to hospitals, care homes, and centres for people with disabilities, transforming spaces and creating shared moments of happiness. Additionally, the circus workshops for schools provide a playful introduction to the performing arts, opening the doors of the circus to students and stimulating their imagination through its values.
The social commitment of FIC is further solidified by its recent affiliation with the “Cultura que Cuida” emblem, a solidarity seal awarded by AFES Mental Health. This recognition highlights the festival’s work in promoting inclusion, accessibility, and combating stigma related to mental health. The collaboration with AFES Mental Health, an organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with mental health issues and their families, demonstrates the importance of valuing a sustainable and inclusive culture.
