The Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) of the Tenerife Cabildo hosted the presentation of the Tensamba Festival today, 3rd September. This year marks its 22nd edition, solidifying its status as a major reference for Brazilian music and culture in the Canary Islands and one of the most significant events in the Ibero-American context. Originating in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the birthplace of Father Anchieta—founder of São Paulo—the festival has successfully grown and expanded into a cultural brand of international reach.

The event was attended by the island’s Councillor for Culture, Museums, and Sports, José Carlos Acha; the co-founder of Tensamba, Tomás López-Perea Cruz; the director of the OAAM from the La Laguna City Council, Fernando Luis Jiménez; and festival collaborator Carlos Castro Brunettto, among others.

In its 21st edition, the festival hosted over 85 activities across 22 cities in five countries, always with the Canary Islands as its epicentre.

This year’s programme will run from September to November, featuring activities across all the islands of the Canary archipelago, as well as in other Spanish cities such as Madrid, Salamanca, and for the third consecutive year, Mallorca. Internationally, Tensamba has already begun OFF events in Tokyo and São Paulo, enhancing its global presence.

The festivities kick off as part of the MUSA BRASIL festival, organised by the MUNA (Museum of Nature and Archaeology of Tenerife), with Tensamba proudly collaborating on two concerts: Filó Machado Band (5th September) and Mônica Salmaso, Guinga, and Teco Cardoso (19th September), as well as six workshops led by the Filó Machado band (6th September). Simultaneously, on 5th September, the Pedro Rosa Quintet will perform at El Almacén, Arrecife, Lanzarote.
