A 68-year-old fisherman has passed away this Friday, the 15th of August, on the coast of Cueva del Agua, within the municipality of Teguise (in the area of Los Cocoteros), after falling into the sea from a rocky area that is difficult to access. The incident occurred at 11:20 hours and mobilised a wide range of emergency services.
According to the information provided by the Emergency Coordination Centre and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Canary Islands Government, several bathers in the area rescued the man from the water after witnessing his fall.
The alert received by CECOES described that the affected individual had suffered an accident on the rocks and was in a critical state.
Given the seriousness of the situation, CECOES immediately activated the necessary resources, including a medical ambulance from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), personnel from the Lanzarote Consortium for Safety, Emergencies, Rescue, Fire Prevention, and Extinguishing, Teguise Local Police, Civil Protection, and the Civil Guard.
The medical personnel from SUC arrived at the scene minutes after the alert and confirmed that the man had no vital signs. Despite the resuscitation efforts initiated by the first responders, the doctor declared him deceased.
The fire brigade, called due to the difficult accessibility of the coastal area, proceeded to move the body to a safe location. The Local Police and Civil Protection collaborated in the operation, while the Civil Guard took custody of the deceased and managed the judicial proceedings.
Funeral services subsequently transported the body once the necessary judicial actions had been authorised.
