The Cabildo of Fuerteventura met today with political and technical representatives from the six municipalities of Majorera to continue working on drafting the management documents for the island’s natural parks. Fuerteventura Continues Work on Natural Park Management

During the meeting, which was attended by the President of the Cabildo, Lola García, the Councillor for Land Management, Nereida Calero, other councillors, and municipal representatives, the current status of the process was discussed.

At present, the Cabildo has received a first draft prepared by the drafting team, which has already been reviewed by the island’s technicians, and a series of possible corrections have been proposed. Meanwhile, the municipalities have been asked to also review the document with their technicians and present any contributions or corrections they deem necessary.

The aim is that by September, all municipal proposals can be submitted to the drafting team, which will assess their feasibility and integration into the final document.

The island’s president emphasised that “this is a coordinated effort with all local administrations to ensure that the future management document reflects the reality and needs of each municipality, with a consensual and technical approach.”

For her part, the Councillor for Land Management, Nereida Calero, stressed that “the management of the natural parks is not just a technical issue, but also a commitment to preserving our environment, and we must balance conservation with the responsible use of the territory.”

This proactive step by the Cabildo is ahead of the usual timelines, allowing the municipalities to have the information in advance and work more effectively on their proposals.
