Fuerteventura Celebrates Fiestas in Honour of Our Lady of La Peña

Fuerteventura continues to celebrate the Fiestas in Honour of Our Lady of La Peña. This morning, Saturday, 20th September, the statue of the Virgin of La Peña was taken to the square of Nuestra Señora de La Peña in the Vega de Río Palmas for the main religious act of the celebrations.

Main Religious Ceremony

Residents, as well as visitors from all corners of Fuerteventura, attended the solemn Eucharist, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, José Mazuelos, and co-celebrated by priests from all municipalities on the island. Following the Eucharist, the Virgin of La Peña returned to the sanctuary, accompanied by those present.

Notable Attendees

Among the attendees were Lola García, President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura; Enrique Cerdeña, Mayor of Betancuria; Rayco León, Councillor for Culture; Jessica de León, Councillor for Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands; and María Jesús de la Cruz, Director of the State Administration on the island, along with various mayors, island and municipal representatives, state officials, parliamentarians, and ecclesiastical and military authorities.

Traditional Tasting Event

After the religious ceremony, the fourth edition of the traditional puchero tasting began, featuring a musical performance by the group Tababaire.
