The ‘Fuerteventura Film Commission’ Short Film Festival has been launched, an initiative aimed at promoting audiovisual talent and showcasing the island’s rich cultural heritage. This event is organised by the Fuerteventura Film Commission in collaboration with local filmmaker Adrián Tejero and his production company, Árida Films. Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, encourages all audiovisual creators to take part in this festival, which “invites participants to transform ideas and share experiences inspired by our landscape and culture.”

Focus on Local Culture

The intention is for each edition of the festival to centre around a specific theme, with this year’s focus being on Our Lady of La Peña. “This theme is particularly significant, as it is a symbol of unity for the entire island, viewed from the creative perspectives of all participants in their short films,” added Lola García.

Thus, the Fuerteventura Film Commission Short Film Festival encourages participants to draw inspiration from this theme, regardless of the chosen genre.

Commitment to Audiovisual Sector

Nereida Calero, Councillor of Fuerteventura Film Commission, stated that with this initiative, “we reaffirm our commitment to the audiovisual sector on an island that has established itself as a natural filming location for international productions, and we aim to further strengthen our local creative ecosystem and highlight our identity.”

To ensure the festival’s development and quality, Calero continued, Fuerteventura Film Commission will collaborate with filmmaker Adrián Tejero and Árida Films, “who will manage the entire process, from defining the rules to coordinating the professional team responsible for receiving, analysing, and evaluating the submitted short films.” In this regard, “we are grateful that a talented local figure like Tejero has agreed to join this endeavour,” the island councillor emphasised.

Encouragement for Participation

The local filmmaker stressed the festival’s potential to “revalue what we have on this island culturally.” He also encouraged everyone interested to participate, “not only professionals but anyone who wishes to portray our identity and traditions.”

Interested individuals can submit their work, with a deadline of 14 November 2025, through the form available on the website Aridafilms.com/festival or via email at [email protected].

Awards Announcement

During the final gala, the selected short films will be screened, and the winner of the best short film award will be announced. The sole prize will amount to €700.
