Canarian Airports Record 4.7 Million Passengers in August, Up 5.2% from Last Year
Canary Islands airports welcomed a total of 4,703,664 passengers on commercial flights in August, which represents a 5.2% increase compared to the same month in 2024, according to data released by Aena on Friday.
Of the total passengers, 2,186,713 travelled on domestic flights, marking a 6.1% rise from August last year, while 2,516,951 flew internationally, an increase of 4.6% compared to the same month in 2024.
Additionally, there were 40,714 aircraft movements, representing a growth of 2.8%, and 2,618 tonnes of cargo were transported, which is a 3.7% increase from August 2024.
Passenger Traffic by Airport
Gran Canaria Airport recorded the highest number of passengers, at 1,294,008, which is a 6.2% increase compared to August 2024. Following Gran Canaria were Tenerife South, with 1,110,732 passengers (+1.1%); César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 825,901 passengers (+3.6%); Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 683,589 (+9.7%); Fuerteventura, with 628,755 (+10%); La Palma, with 138,846 (+0.5%); El Hierro, with 34,086 (-4.1%); and La Gomera, with 14,283 passengers (+9.2%).
Over 36.4 Million Travellers Recorded Up to August
In terms of cumulative figures, Canarian airports recorded 36,401,682 travellers from January to August, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Out of 36,185,568 commercial passengers, 14,993,983 travelled on domestic flights (+5.3%) and 21,191,585 flew internationally (+5%).
Moreover, from January to August 2025, there were 321,755 aircraft movements, a rise of 4.7% from the previous year, while 21,283 tonnes of cargo were transported, indicating a decrease of 1.8%.
The Aena Group airports (comprised of 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport, and 17 airports in Brazil) closed August 2025 with 38,994,561 passengers, a 4% increase over the same month in 2024. They also managed 312,165 aircraft movements (+0.9%) and transported 123,718 tonnes of goods (+6.3%).
