The Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen will host the “International Tourism Day Puerto del Carmen and ZEConsciente Awards” gala on Friday, 26th September at 19:30. This event marks the beginning of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of Puerto del Carmen as a tourist destination.

Commemorating Six Decades of Transformation

This milestone, which will continue until October 2026, commemorates six decades of transformation, hospitality, and international recognition. The gala is also part of World Tourism Day, promoted by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) every 27th September.

Honouring Local Contributors

According to a press release, the gala will honour notable figures and local residents whose contributions have been crucial in establishing the destination. This year, the ZEConsciente recognition will be awarded to Ico Montelongo Pérez for his commitment to local products and the ice cream tradition; Josefina Gopar, a pioneer of commerce in La Tiñosa and a key figure in visitor services; Emilio Pérez Franquiz, master fisherman and first president of the La Tiñosa brotherhood; and Kenneth Gasque, founder of Ironman Lanzarote and a promoter of sports tourism that elevated Puerto del Carmen’s international profile.

A New Commemorative Image

During the evening, the new commemorative image for the 60th anniversary will also be unveiled. This visual identity reflects the continuous evolution of Puerto del Carmen over time. Featuring a dynamic and festive design, with vibrant colours, white confetti, and red squares, the new brand represents the energy, diversity, and future aspirations of a destination that has successfully blended tradition, innovation, and sustainability.

Musical Highlights

Music will play a prominent role thanks to a performance by the renowned Cantadores company, comprising 25 artists and technicians. The show will feature three of the most outstanding voices from the Canary Islands’ music scene: Ciro Corujo, Manuel Estupiñán, and Pedro Manuel Afonso, who will take the audience on a journey through the memories, culture, and shared emotions of several generations.

A Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

This event reaffirms the municipality of Tías’s commitment to a sustainable and responsible tourism model. It values not only sun and beach attractions but also the preservation of the natural environment, cultural heritage, and local identity. The gala will serve as the starting point for a year-long calendar of events that will further establish Puerto del Carmen as an excellent, innovative, and respectful tourist destination with its history and people. As the event has limited capacity, access will be by invitation only.
