Tributes Paid to Renowned Dermatologist Cristóbal del Rosario
The Cabildo awarded Cristóbal del Rosario the Silver Cane of the Sciences in 2017 in recognition of his professional career. The distinguished dermatologist passed away this Wednesday.
Professional Career and Contributions
Specialising in medical-surgical dermatology and venereology, he served as the director of the Tafira Dermatological Hospital. His professional journey began in 1977 and included roles in both the public and private sectors. He initially opened his practice on Mas de Gaminde street in the capital before relocating to Mesa y López.
Del Rosario was also the President of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology in the Canary Islands. He balanced his professional work with social activism and cooperation efforts.
Community Engagement
In 2011, three civic associations (Ben Magec, Canarias en Positivo, and the Development and Knowledge Society) proposed that Cristóbal del Rosario be elected as a Deputy of the Common. This initiative aimed to enable society to participate “in the designation of representatives in institutions that defend the interests of all citizens before public bodies.”
A Fond Farewell
“His affable character and kindness made him an approachable man. Beyond medicine, he had a genuine devotion to the beauty of Las Canteras, the same landscapes of Agaete that captivated the poet Tomás Morales, and the colours of Unión Deportiva Las Palmas,” stated the Cabildo of Gran Canaria when conferring the Silver Cane award.
“Wherever he went, he proudly proclaimed his Gran Canarian heritage, and throughout his years of practice, he continually pursued further education to stay updated on the latest treatments in his field, ensuring the best possible care for his patients,” the island institution highlighted.
His remains are being laid to rest in Room 104 of the San Miguel Funeral Home in Las Torres.
