Heatwave Conditions Expected

An episode of heat will affect the island at elevations exceeding 400 metres, with temperatures potentially reaching 34 degrees Celsius. The Canary Islands’ General Directorate of Emergencies has declared a wildfire risk alert for Gran Canaria due to this heatwave.

The alert will be in effect from 10:00 AM on Monday, with relative humidity expected to drop to 30% or lower at altitudes of 700 to 800 metres. There will also be high-altitude dust and weak to moderate easterly and southeasterly winds in mid-altitude, high, and peak areas.

Ongoing Alerts in Other Islands

Emergency services have noted that a pre-alert for wildfire risks remains in place for El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, and Tenerife, originally declared on 1 June.
