Celebration of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes in Mala
The Haría Town Council, through the Department of Festivities, celebrated the popular pilgrimage in honour of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes in Mala on Saturday, 20th September. The event commenced with a departure from the former post office located on Cangrejo Street, where participants traversed the main roads of the locality accompanied by the Malpaís de La Corona music group.
The Mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, emphasised that “these celebrations are part of our cultural and festive heritage and allow us to keep our traditions alive”. He expressed gratitude for the “participation of the community, which makes these festivities a continuing success”.
Inclusivity and Community Engagement
Additionally, the Councillor for Festivities, Alberto de León, stated that “the festival programme included both religious events and popular activities to encourage the participation of locals and visitors in a safe and organised environment”.
The Day’s Festivities
The day continued with the Baile del Romero, accompanied by the traditional enyesque, as well as the selection of the romero and romera mayor, concluding with performances from the island’s musical groups El Golpito, Sondemar, and Son del Norte.
