Historic Bunker Cleared for Cultural and Ethnographic Management in Las Palmas

The Council highlights that the city is reclaiming this historic site to ensure its future cultural and ethnographic management.

Bunker Eviction Undertaken

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, alongside the Coastal Demarcation of the Canary Islands, carried out the eviction of the historic bunker located at Punta de El Confital on Monday. This site had been occupied for several years.

According to the municipal administration, this operation was executed following a ruling from the Administrative Court No. 4, which authorised the eviction.

Coordinated Efforts for Recovery

The intervention was conducted by representatives from the Coastal Demarcation of the Canary Islands, under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. They worked alongside the City’s Maritime Department and its beach cleaning service managed by FCC, the Municipal Cleaning Service, the Animal Protection Unit, local police, and the National Police.

Comments from Officials

Pedro Quevedo, the Councillor for Maritime Affairs, stated that this operation “concludes the administrative and judicial process that the City Council requested from Coastal authorities to recover and protect a public asset, which belongs to everyone, located in a privileged area within the maritime-terrestrial public domain.”

Cleaning and Securing the Site

On Monday morning, municipal workers removed items and debris accumulated within the World War II defensive structure. The area has been cleaned and sanitised, and measures have been taken to secure the site for its protection.

The City Council noted that this is not the only action taken by the Maritime Department to recover such facilities, as another nearby installation was reclaimed in April 2024.
