The Cabildo Celebrates the First Insular Congress on Socio-Health Experiences

Councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, emphasised that this is “a platform to share experiences and professional backgrounds, which will positively impact care for individuals”

The Congress will take place on 25th and 26th September in Puerto de la Cruz and will feature 12 national speakers sharing their knowledge and professional backgrounds in this forum

Almost 500 people will participate on 25th and 26th September in the First Insular Congress on Socio-Health Experiences, an initiative organised by the Social Action department of the Cabildo de Tenerife.

The Councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, along with the manager of the IASS (Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care), Yazmina León, and the director of the Dependency Care Unit, Beatriz Durán, presented this initiative, which will take place in Puerto de la Cruz and will include 12 national speakers sharing their expertise and professional backgrounds in the forum.

Fumero stated that “this Congress is an additional element to improve socio-health care, which we must approach from a comprehensive viewpoint, aspiring to enhance the quality of life for dependent individuals, the elderly, and those with disabilities, promoting their autonomy and physical and emotional well-being.”

Águeda Fumero elaborated on the content of the Congress, during which technical advancements will be shared, new intervention strategies and care practices will be discussed, interdisciplinary collaboration encouraged, and professionals trained in emerging trends.

The Councillor recalled the meeting of entities from the Insular Network of Social Policies that the Cabildo held in 2024, “which was the seed for this Congress, designed with the clear intention to provide working tools to professionals who care for dependent individuals in Tenerife on a daily basis.”

Fumero highlighted that “in Tenerife, each year, 8,500 individuals receive care, thanks to a network of over 100 public and private entities, which is becoming a consolidated alliance network, allowing us to reach all corners of the island, with increasingly specialised services.”

During the presentation, the manager of the IASS, Yazmina León, noted that “in this Congress, which is pioneering in the Canaries, we want to initially target professional audiences, but also students training in the socio-health field, and any interested members of society in socio-health care.”

On her part, the director of the Dependency Care Unit, Beatriz Durán, affirmed that “the aim of this initiative is to share experiences and professional stories, turning them into educational instruments that, in turn, will help us improve the lives of individuals.”

The registration deadline for this Congress ends tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd). Interested individuals can find more information on the Congress website.
