The City Council of Granadilla de Abona, through the Department of Sports led by Fredi Oramas and Rubén García Casañas, announced today at the Hotel Médano the I Granadilla Romina Lamas Tournament – Copa Gobierno de Canarias, which will take place on the 27th and 28th of September at the Pabellón Municipal de Deportes Los Hinojeros, with free admission.
The tournament will pay tribute to former player Romina Lamas and will feature four of the top teams from the Superliga Femenina de Voleibol: CV Haris, CV Heidelberg, CV Hidramar Gran Canaria, and Sayre Mayser Gran Canaria, all of which are prominent in Canarian volleyball.
Official Presentation of the Volleyball Academy
During the event, the official presentation of the youth teams from the Tenerife Volleyball Academy (AVT), based in Granadilla de Abona and led by Romina Lamas and Elzbieta Nykiel, will also take place.
Mayor’s Remarks
The Mayor, José Domingo Regalado, emphasised, “Granadilla will become the capital of Canarian volleyball this weekend, with an event that honours the career of Romina Lamas and the work that is being done at the grassroots level. Supporting initiatives like this is an investment in health, values-based education, and the sporting future of our municipality.”

Sports Councillor Fredi Oramas stated, “It is a source of pride to bring some of the best national teams to our municipality and offer a first-class spectacle for all our residents. We want the Pabellón de Los Hinojeros to be filled with families, young people, and volleyball enthusiasts.”
Similarly, fellow Sports Councillor Rubén García Casañas remarked, “This tournament is not only an opportunity to enjoy elite competition but also to raise awareness of the grassroots work being developed in Granadilla. We firmly believe that supporting new generations is the best way to ensure the future of sports in our municipality.”
Comments from Romina Lamas
The honouree and former international player, Romina Lamas, highlighted the growth of the Volleyball Academy, which now has over 400 participants. She expressed her hope that a tournament of this calibre will “inspire and motivate the youth teams to continue training and to understand that sport is not just for fun, but can also be a life project and a professional career.”
Competition Schedule
The competition schedule includes the semi-finals on Saturday 27th September, at 16:00 and 19:00, with doors opening at 15:30 and pre-event activities for attendees.
On Sunday 28th September, the third-place match will be held at 10:00, followed by the grand final at 12:00, concluding around 14:00.
