Accessibility Improvements Planned for Los Cristianos Port

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) – The Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Canary Islands Government has launched a tender for the contract to draft an informative study aimed at improving the accessibility of Los Cristianos port to the TF-1 motorway.

Project Overview

The initiative, promoted by the General Directorate of Road Infrastructure, has a base budget of €597,898.59. Its primary goal is to update and develop a comprehensive proposal that addresses the accessibility issues in this southern area of Tenerife.

Enhancing Accessibility

The Department has initiated this process to provide enhancements to the accessibility of Los Cristianos port and its connection to the TF-1. It aims to define improvement alternatives that meet the service level of the port in line with the capabilities of this infrastructure, as it is one of the busiest passenger ports in Spain.

Proposed Improvements

Among the proposed actions is the design of a tunnel that will directly connect the dock to Chayofita Avenue, allowing for more efficient management of the traffic generated and attracted by this port facility.

The new underground access will traverse a volcanic cone of pyroclasts with surface buildings, necessitating a detailed feasibility study and prior ground treatments to ensure the safety of existing buildings and facilities, as noted by the Department in a statement.

Study Components

The study will also include a geological and geotechnical campaign of the land, a traffic analysis of all roads converging in the intervention area, and a survey campaign.

Additionally, the level of service for each road will be evaluated to select, through a multi-criteria analysis, the most suitable alternative from a functional, economic, and environmental perspective.

Future Planning

The improvement actions developed in the study will include an estimation of the service level for each road considered, aiming to select the optimal alternative based on a multi-criteria analysis that takes into account functional, economic, and environmental aspects, among others.

The alternative deemed most advisable in the study will be developed in the subsequent planning and construction projects.

Funding and Applications

Both the drafting of the informative study and the design and construction projects will receive a contribution of €5 million from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

Interested companies can submit their applications electronically through the Public Sector Contracting Platform (PLACSP) until 19 September 2025 at 14:00.
