Completion is expected by October

The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Department of Roads, is progressing with safety improvement works on the pedestrian walkway located on the TF-194 at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. The project, awarded to the company Señalizaciones Villar, entails an investment of over 96,000 euros, with completion expected by October.

The Roads Councillor, Dámaso Arteaga, who recently visited the site accompanied by the Mobility Councillor of La Laguna City Council, Domingo Galván, highlighted that these works were approved as a matter of urgency due to the identified need to replace the existing railings along the entire pedestrian walkway to prevent potential debris falling onto the tram tracks.

These works are complemented by those being carried out on the service road at the TF-5 junction with the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. The cost of this project is 300,000 euros, with an execution period of three months. Regarding this, Dámaso Arteaga noted that the works aim to “improve accessibility in the area by connecting the pedestrian ramp located at the edge of the TF-5 through the construction of pavements and establishing a new bus stop, along with the drainage of rainwater.”

This intervention forms part of the rehabilitation and mobility improvement plan for the island’s road network. It is worth noting that the Cabildo has recently put out to tender a total of 38 projects aimed at enhancing safety measures and rehabilitating road surfaces across the island. The actions include road resurfacing, drainage improvements, signage, marking, and safety barriers. Furthermore, the plans encompass the stabilisation of slopes and embankments on various roads of island interest. The total value of the contracts exceeds 700,000 euros. Specifically, the rehabilitation project will focus on renewing essential signs such as give way, lane markings, direction arrows, and crossing markings, which currently exhibit a high level of wear. These signs are crucial for guiding and warning drivers, particularly at night, when poor visibility can heighten the risk of incidents.

Among the initiatives, the rehabilitation of the TF-1 motorway between Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar stands out, with a budget of 30 million euros covering approximately 24 kilometres. These improvements include resurfacing, the installation of sound strips along the roadway edges, repainting of signage, and the installation of safety barriers, ensuring efficiency on a route that sees over 50,000 vehicles daily.
