Inauguration of Cetacean Exhibition at First Nautical Show in Tenerife

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) – This weekend, the First Nautical Show of the Canary Islands, taking place at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fairgrounds, inaugurated the Itinerant Exhibition of Macaronesian Cetaceans from Loro Parque. This exhibition will tour various locations across the archipelago until June.

This awareness project, spearheaded by Loro Parque Fundación and supported by Fundación la Caixa through Caixabank, Fred Olsen, and Archipiélago Renting, returns following its previous edition, which saw participation from over 13,000 people and 75 schools.

In addition, the impact of other educational activities from the Loro Parque Group and Loro Parque Fundación has reached more than 40,000 schoolchildren, as detailed by Loro Parque in a statement.

The event was attended by Christoph Kiessling, president of the Loro Parque Group; Lope Afonso, vice president of the Tenerife Cabildo; Manuel Fernández, councillor for Industry, Trade, Primary Sector, and Animal Welfare; Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, director of Institutional Relations of the Loro Parque Group; and various representatives from the business, social, and governmental sectors.

“We are genuinely pleased to relaunch this spectacular exhibition, allowing visitors to be awed by the quality and size of these replicas. This marks the third school year of this captivating awareness project, which has been very well received by the educational community,” emphasised Christoph Kiessling, president of Loro Parque Fundación.

Objective of the Initiative

This initiative aims to raise awareness about the extraordinary variety of cetaceans inhabiting the Canary Islands.

It also seeks to garner support for two major projects led by Loro Parque Fundación focused on the protection of these marine mammals: the establishment of a Marine Sanctuary in Macaronesia and the implementation of a moratorium on military sonar use in the waters surrounding the Canary Islands.

Unique Educational Experience

Beyond spreading information about cetaceans, the proposal aims to provide a unique educational experience.

The visual impact generated by the large-scale replicas is enhanced by the integration of augmented reality, allowing visitors to explore numerous species featured in the exhibition in depth.

For over two decades, Loro Parque Fundación has actively promoted awareness of the cetaceans of Macaronesia through informational panels, audiovisual productions, talks, whale-watching excursions, and social media among other tools.

This clearly demonstrates the entity’s unwavering commitment to species protection and the conservation of their ecosystems, as highlighted by the company.
