Increased School Dining Places in Lanzarote for 2025/2026 Academic Year

The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity, and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Poli Suárez, will enhance the school meal service on the island of Lanzarote for the 2025/2026 academic year by adding seventy new places across three Early Years and Primary Education centres (CEIP) —Las Breñas, Mararía, and Nazaret— and reopening the canteen at CEIP Guenia.

Distribution of New Places

According to planning carried out by the General Directorate of School Administration, Enrolment, and Complementary Services, coordinated by David Crego, the authorised maximum number of places at these centres will be distributed as follows: fifteen diners at CEIP Las Breñas in Yaiza, nineteen at Mararía in the same municipality, and twenty-four at Nazaret in Teguise.

In addition to the places at these three centres, the service at CEIP Guenia, also in Teguise, will resume after being inactive since the 2020/2021 academic year, contributing an additional forty places. This will cater to the needs of thirty Early Years and Primary students, as well as ten in the two-year classroom.

Investment and Collaboration

The establishment of these canteens has been made possible through collaboration with the local councils of the affected municipalities and the investment made by the area led by Poli Suárez to equip and prepare the kitchen and dining facilities. In this regard, €5,967.75 has been allocated to CEIP Las Breñas, €6,963.56 to CEIP Nazaret, and €5,909.61 to CEIP Mararía, ensuring a safe, modern, and quality service for the students and their families.

Ensuring Equality of Opportunity

In this context, David Crego highlighted that the incorporation of these new places “reflects the Ministry’s desire to bring the meal service closer to more families on the island, particularly in rural areas, ensuring equal opportunities for students and facilitating the balance between work and family life.”

The director general added that “the priority is to ensure that each meal place meets criteria of equity and efficiency, optimising available resources to reach as many students as possible,” while also noting that “this enhancement in Lanzarote is another step in the strategy we are deploying across all the islands and a way to bolster our support for single-class schools.”

Commitment to Educational Services

With the incorporation of these new places on the island of Lanzarote, the Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to progressively expanding complementary services within the educational system in the islands, ensuring that more students can access provisions that enhance their well-being and comfort, while also providing support for many families in organising their daily lives.
