Intensive Police Checks Implemented in Arrecife’s Nightlife Areas for Public Safety

The Local Police of Arrecife conducted intensive preventive checks over the weekend nights in various areas associated with the city’s nightlife. These police operations, ordered by Mayor Yonathan de León as the direct head of the Local Police Department, aim to ensure public safety and to enforce compliance by nightlife venues with their opening hours, as well as ensuring they operate within the activities specified in their licences.

Preventive Checks and Enforcement Actions

The Local Police’s preventive checks in areas such as La Inés, Triana, Manolo Millares, and several neighbourhoods of Arrecife concluded in the early hours of Saturday, 20 September, with a fine imposed on a nightlife venue for violating municipal regulations concerning its operations. Additionally, three individuals were issued reports for drug possession under Law 4/2015, the organic law that regulates public safety protection.

Increased Presence to Combat Drug Issues

The officers from the USCI of the Local Police in Arrecife are intensifying their presence in sensitive areas and public spaces to combat the sale and consumption of drugs, particularly among adolescents. For these operations, the Local Police is deploying dogs from the Canary Unit of Arrecife, one of the most successful units in the peripheral islands of both Archipelagos.

Monitoring Public Spaces and Compliance with Immigration Laws

Furthermore, the Local Police are conducting preventive checks on individuals in public spaces and certain nightlife venues to ensure compliance with immigration laws, particularly concerning illegal stays. Recently, the Local Police have equipped themselves with advanced devices and technological tools for accessing police databases, among other capabilities.
