The arrival of small boats in Lanzarote marked a busy weekend with several consecutive rescues. The Security and Emergency Consortium confirmed that in the early hours of Sunday, Salvamento Marítimo intercepted a vessel carrying 50 people – 49 men and one woman – who were taken to the Naos dock in Arrecife.
This operation followed another on Friday when 57 migrants reached the same area after departing from Tan Tan, Morocco. Among them were six minors and four women. All received assistance from the Red Cross at the port, with seven requiring medical attention, although none needed hospitalisation.
Activities continued throughout Sunday. At 17:15, Salvamento Marítimo reported recovering a dinghy with around 50 people on board. Ultimately, their arrival at port was expected by 21:00 in Arrecife, with a total of 54 people – 50 men and 4 women – being rescued in apparent good health.
Meanwhile, emergency teams are actively conducting a search for another vessel east of the island with 39 occupants, according to information provided by the Security Consortium.
The confirmed nationalities correspond only to the group rescued on Friday, with individuals from Senegal, Eritrea, Guinea Conakry, and Gambia. The nationalities of the migrants who arrived this Sunday have yet to be specified.
So far in September, migration pressure in the Archipelago has surged considerably, with multiple arrivals to Lanzarote in just a few days, necessitating constant deployments by Salvamento Marítimo and the Red Cross.
