Judicial Proceedings Update
The judicial authority at the Court of First Instance number 1 of Arona, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has transformed the preliminary proceedings commenced in 2024 into a case before a jury concerning the alleged murder of a Belgian couple who resided in Adeje until spring 2024.
The case is directed against three Belgian nationals, who are currently in provisional detention, as specified in a statement from the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands.
Investigation Developments
A ruling issued this June has ordered the conduct of various tests proposed by the defendants’ lawyers. This includes the final autopsy report of the allegedly murdered woman—since her husband’s body has not been found—along with the collection of last witness testimonies, and a technical report on the geolocation of the accused’s mobile phones during the period in which the crimes were allegedly committed.
The couple disappeared in mid-April 2024. The woman’s body, found on the 27th of that month, had severe mutilations and presented alarming circumstances.
Two of the alleged perpetrators, who reportedly lived near the couple in Adeje, were apprehended in Belgium following an international search warrant issued by the Arona Court. The third suspect was arrested later in Tenerife. All three remain in preventive custody in Spain.
