The Baifo Extreme is undoubtedly one of the premier sporting events held throughout the year in Fuerteventura. There could be no better setting than the surroundings of Mount Tindaya in the municipality of La Oliva, where the old and abandoned football pitch has been transformed into a permanent obstacle course racing (OCR) training facility. This has revitalised a sports venue and a Majorcan locality that offers much more than just the sacred mountain. The Baifo Extreme never disappoints
The FIAF indicates that the weekend in Tindaya was quite austere. Over three days, it featured cultural, gastronomic, musical, sporting, environmental, and festive activities. Nearly three thousand people gathered from Friday afternoon for training activities. Saturday continued with the IX Baifo Extreme Kids, and Sunday showcased the X Baifo Extreme. Here, the best competitors from the OCR Canarias league gathered at the starting line, competing for points and positions in the rankings, rightfully striving to challenge for top honours, where success meant crossing the finish line with a smile and eager to return.
The superb organisation left nothing to chance, as is customary, which enhances its reputation year after year among the Majorcan and Canary Island communities. In addition to a fantastic runner’s pack, medals were awarded to all participants who completed the race, meeting the proposed objectives with great success. On one hand, the aim was to provide competitors with a unique sporting experience; on the other hand, to immerse them in the fascinating world of obstacle course racing.
Race Categories
The Baifo Extreme combines agility, endurance, and daring and is organised by the La Oliva Council and the Al Máximo sports club, with numerous businesses and institutions involved. The event is particularly targeted towards Spartans and those passionate about CrossFit rather than traditional trail or road runners. It featured three competition categories: elite, pre-elite, and standard or popular.
A Triumph for Competitors
Without a doubt, arriving at the finish arch with a smile after conquering a challenge reserved for the most courageous was the greatest reward for over seven hundred competitors who reached the finish line both on Saturday in the Baifo Extreme Kids and on Sunday in the Baifo Extreme across its three modalities (elite, pre-elite, and standard or popular).
