The Baifo Extreme Returns to Tindaya
This weekend, Tindaya Mountain will once again become the epicentre of extreme sports with the celebration of the tenth edition of the Baifo Extreme, taking place from 12th to 14th September. The event will bring together over 700 participants from various locations across the Canary Islands and the mainland, solidifying its status as one of the most prominent obstacle competitions in the archipelago.
The event, supported by La Oliva Town Hall with the involvement of several departments, reaffirms the institutional commitment to promoting sports activities in unique locations across Fuerteventura. In addition to the race, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a Fan Zone featuring environmental awareness activities, culinary offerings, and musical performances.
Challenging Obstacles Await
Athletes will face a course designed to test their physical and mental endurance, featuring obstacles such as walls, mud, weights, and ropes, which are characteristic of OCR competitions.
Support from Local Authorities
The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, emphasised the importance of maintaining support for an event that has become a key reference point in the Canary Islands’ sports calendar after ten editions. Meanwhile, the Councillor for Sports, Gleiber Carreño, highlighted the growing number of participants and the value of Baifo Extreme as a showcase for promoting the municipality as a sporting destination.
Tourism and Environmental Impact
From the Tourism and Environment department, David Fajardo stressed the event’s capacity to attract visitors interested in experiences linked to sports and nature, while reiterating the need to continue raising awareness about environmental preservation.
Economic Contributions
The Sports Councillor, Luis González, praised the organisational effort and the balance achieved between the competition’s development and respect for the natural environment.
Additionally, the General Director for Planning, Training, and Tourism Promotion of the Canary Islands Government, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, noted that the last edition generated an economic impact close to €200,000 and indicated that this year’s figures are expected to surpass that amount, reinforcing the diversification of the tourism offering and its contributions to employment and sustainability.
With a decade of experience, the Baifo Extreme not only stands as a sporting challenge but also serves as an economic and social engine for Fuerteventura. The Baifo Extreme celebrates its tenth anniversary in Tindaya with over 700 runners.
