The Council of La Laguna, through the departments of Works, Infrastructure and Accessibility and Sports, is carrying out various improvements at the San Matías court, a key space for outdoor exercise within the community.

This intervention responds to the need to implement a comprehensive project that addresses the demands of local residents.

The main actions include levelling and asphalting the ground; this time, no health-related equipment will be installed, but rather game tables will be placed for the enjoyment of the public.

The Councillor for Works, Ángel Chinea, emphasised that “these interventions will have a key focus on safety, through the removal and replacement of the existing fencing, the correction of minor pavement subsidence, and the resurfacing of the entire area.”

Meanwhile, the president of the Autonomous Sports Organisation, Badel Albelo, noted that “current basketball hoops will also be removed and replaced with state-of-the-art installations, providing the opportunity to practice different sports in the same space.”

The actions will also include the removal of the metal plates that delimit the ground, improvements to the rainwater drainage system and the removal of the drain located in the centre of the court. Marking and signage of the court will also be implemented.

On another note, tables for playing chess and ludo will be acquired, which will be installed in the space previously occupied by the health-related equipment.

The responsible departments estimate that these works will successfully conclude during the month of August, thus allowing a return to normalcy just in time for the start of the school year and the resumption of activities in other reference centres.
