Measures to Address Residential and Mobility Pressure in Corralejo

The La Oliva Town Council has initiated a series of measures to address the increasing residential and mobility pressures in Corralejo. Notably, these include the allocation of land for the construction of 77 affordable rental properties in La Bocaina, managed by the Canary Islands Housing Institute. There are also plans for the future development of an additional 48 flats in the Panorama Tres Islas area. La Oliva is committed to delivering 125 social housing units and new parking facilities to accommodate population growth.

Both projects represent a total of 125 homes with prices tailored to the financial capabilities of local families, with particular focus on young people and workers who face challenges in the current housing market. Under the Panorama Tres Islas plan, rents will be linked to a maximum of 20% of the Public Indicators of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM), aimed at ensuring economic stability and real access to housing.

Improving Mobility

The northern municipality also plans initiatives regarding mobility. Specifically, it will designate two plots of land as public parking areas: one next to the Bus Station and another on Palangre Street, where the CAAF offices were previously located.

Prioritising Affordable Housing

Mayor Isaí Blanco emphasised that these initiatives represent an initial step to combat the rising rental costs on the island and to provide citizens with access to dignified housing. In line with this, the Deputy Mayor, Julio Santana, highlighted that the priority of the governing team is to establish a safe and accessible municipality in which all families have a home.

Through these actions, the Town Council reaffirms its commitment to addressing community demands, promoting a balance between housing, infrastructure, and quality of life in La Oliva.
