  • Stories and sounds mesmerise at La Degollada
  • Lajalada captivates the audience with a fusion of electronic, pop, and Canary Island folklore at the Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora cycle. The second stop of the festival sees attendance double.

Lajalada: A Musical Mélange from the Canaries

With stories and sounds reinvigorated through electronic ‘cacharros’ and new technology, Lajalada entranced the audience at the merendero of La Degollada.

Gran Canaria’s creator Belén Álvarez Doreste delivered a unique performance during the second event of the travelling cycle Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora, a cultural initiative supported by the Yaiza City Council and produced by Rofe Producciones.

Her proposal intertwines pop, acoustic, folk from the islands, and electronic elements, aiming to “unify everything that represents my identity,” as stated by the artist herself.

Public Attendance Success at La Degollada

The Councillor for Culture, César Rijo, positively assessed the reception of the concert:

“We are very pleased with the audience attendance, which has doubled from the over one hundred people at the first concert in Uga. This confirms that Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora is solidifying and that when we consistently offer quality cultural events, interest grows. We encourage the local population to continue engaging with culture.”

Meanwhile, Ubay T. Alemán, director of Rofe Producciones, emphasised:

“This concert was very special: a clear demonstration that there is immense local talent in the Canaries and beautiful natural spaces that deserve to be discovered. Music was the perfect excuse for us to gather in this location. I feel very grateful for the warm reception.”

A Musical and Emotional Journey

For Belén Álvarez, performing in Lanzarote is always a magical experience, especially in such a natural setting as La Degollada:

“Being in such a free and natural space is a true delight.”

Lajalada’s repertoire included tracks from her production ‘Demañananosé’, tales about working women from La Graciosa, and an emotional interpretation of the Herreño romance ‘Princesa peregrina’.

The audience enjoyed a concert that, according to the artist, showcased that “within one person, there are many tribes, and all can come together to create a unique musical blend.”

Next Event: Julia Rodríguez in El Golfo

The Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora cycle will continue on 20 September with Majorcan singer-songwriter Julia Rodríguez, at 19:30 in the coastal village of El Golfo, also in an open space.
