The capital of Lanzarote embraced tradition once again this Saturday with the celebration of the parade and offering in honour of San Ginés, the city’s patron saint. From early morning, the historic centre was filled with spectators accompanying a route that began at “Cuatro Esquinas” and concluded at the Boca del Muelle Chico, where the offering took place before the image of the saint.

This year, the musical parade featured the San Cristóbal Folk Group from Gran Canaria, the Princesa Iraya Folk Group from Tenerife, and the Choirs and Dances of Arrecife. The night prior, they participated in the 31st San Ginés Folk Festival held in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, and joining them from Galicia was the Aturuxo Folk Group, set to perform tonight in the same park from 8:00 PM.

Residents, visitors, and institutional representatives attended this event, which was graced by the presence of the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, the deputy mayor and councillor for festivities, Echedey Eugenio, members of the government team, and other officials. The parish priest of the Church of San Ginés Obispo, Juan Carlos Medina, officiated the offering, which was marked by emotion and respect towards the patron.

The festive day continued later at the Recova Municipal, where participating groups gathered for a meeting, exchanging recognitions and gratitude towards the Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote for their commitment to promoting folklore and popular traditions.

In a press release on Saturday, Mayor Yonathan de León and Councillor Echedey Eugenio emphasised the importance of keeping these events alive, which reinforce the cultural identity of the city and establish the patronal festivities as a hallmark for the whole island. Both expressed their thanks to the folk groups and the warm response from the public, who once again celebrated San Ginés.
