Lanzarote Council Acknowledges the Work of the Grandmother’s Attic Association

The President of the Lanzarote Council, Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by the Councillor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, and the Deputy Councillor for Social Welfare of the Canary Islands Government, Francisco Candil, visited the facilities of the Association El Ático de la Abuela in the municipality of Yaiza last Thursday.

This non-profit organisation has played a vital role in supporting vulnerable families by providing essential goods and working closely with public administrations. Their work was particularly significant during the pandemic and in the years that followed.

On Tuesday, President Oswaldo Betancort highlighted in a press release, “the enormous effort undertaken by organisations such as El Ático de la Abuela, whose work complements and reinforces the actions of institutions.” He affirmed, “The Council will continue to support initiatives like this that place people at the heart of management and contribute to improving the quality of life for those in greatest need.”

For his part, Councillor Marci Acuña stressed that “collaboration between the associative fabric and administrations is essential to reach those who are facing the greatest difficulties.”

He concluded, “With institutional support, we want to ensure that this entity can maintain its activities and continue to be a benchmark of solidarity in Lanzarote.”

In this regard, the Lanzarote Council approved a nominated grant of €10,000 during the plenary session last June, aimed at covering the association’s premises expenses for the year 2025.
