The president, Oswaldo Betancort, the councillor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, and the deputy councillor for Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco Candil, visited around thirty young people with functional diversity taking part in the programme.

On Thursday, 14th August, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by the councillor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, and the deputy councillor for Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco Candil, visited the facilities of the inclusive summer camp of Creciendo Yaiza. This initiative aims to support work-life balance during this summer period.

During the meeting, the representatives from the island corporation were able to learn firsthand about the activities being carried out in this programme, which involves around thirty children and young people with functional diversity from different municipalities across the island.

Oswaldo Betancort emphasised the need for such initiatives in Lanzarote to “build a society committed to equity, integration, and social well-being.” “This project represents an opportunity and a change in life for these individuals, and we, at the Cabildo, commend Aqualava for conducting this camp in such a special environment. This year, we particularly appreciate the hiring of two individuals with intellectual disabilities during this summer period,” he stated.

For his part, the head of the Area, Marci Acuña, highlighted the collaboration with Aqualava from the Relaxia group, as well as its professionals, to “amplify the voice of work-life balance and ensure decent and stable employment for people with disabilities.” “This initiative has also provided professional guidance to their families and access to services they require due to the special educational needs of boys and girls,” he underscored.

“The corporation, through technical assistance, contributes to the payment of monitors since such camps require greater resources, as well as support for families,” explained Marci Acuña.

Creciendo Yaiza was established in 2013 with the aim of aiding the labour integration of individuals with functional diversity. It is a programme that concludes on Sunday, 31st August, aimed at young people aged 4 to 12 years. Various activities have taken place in the locations of Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero, where the youngest participants have been able to enjoy educational dynamics and outdoor games in a safe environment suited to their age.
