Celebration of the Insular Congress of Lanzarote En Pie
This Saturday, 20th September, the Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) headquarters in Valterra hosted the Insular Congress of the party. This meeting was crucial for consolidating its political structure and reinforcing its commitment to building a leftist municipal alternative on the island.
Leadership Continuity and New Council
LEP members supported the continuation of Leticia Padilla as the head of the insular coordination, reaffirming her as the political leader of the project. Furthermore, the new Insular Coordination Council was established, which will primarily focus on driving the political and organisational action of the party.
Approval of Key Political Documents
Additionally, political documents that lend identity and structure to the organisation were approved, the statutory framework was updated, and resolutions were defined that will set the roadmap for the 2025–2029 cycle.
“The resolutions we approved are not mere statements; they are immediate commitments that guide our action and outline our next collective steps,” stated Leticia Padilla.
Commitment to Social Justice and Rights
Lanzarote En Pie thus strengthens its dedication to defending the right to housing against rampant touristification, advocating for free and quality public services, and protecting the territory against the speculative and predatory model that threatens the island’s ecosystems and living conditions.
The approved resolutions also advocate for a fair ecosocial transition, prioritising collective well-being over private profit, as well as a political model rooted in permanent sovereignty, community ties, and self-governance as a means of democratic resistance against centralisation and authoritarianism.
Focus on Feminism and Social Issues
Furthermore, structural feminism, care work, critical Canarian identity, popular memory, and the defence of migrant rights are positioned at the heart of the political project, regarded as essential pillars for building a just, plural, and cohesive community.
The organisation affirms that the resolutions approved “do not merely outline general lines; they clearly express LEP’s intention to engage in the major political and social conflicts affecting the island.”
Commitment to Reconstructing Leftist Political Space
They also highlight their commitment to working towards the reconstruction of the insular leftist political space. This is a goal the organisation embraces “with responsibility, favouring dialogue, collaboration, and unity in the struggle against the advance of neofascism and authoritarian far-right movements.”
“LEP thus reaffirms itself as an organised, coherent force willing to join efforts to strengthen the progressive space on the island and respond collectively to the forthcoming social and political challenges,” stated party representatives.
The Path Forward
Leticia Padilla emphasised the need to establish a “strong, ethical, and transparent organisation capable of engaging with social movements and contending for the common space through clear, direct, and transformative political communication.”
In conclusion, LEP asserts that following this Congress, it will “reinforce its role as a transformative project, rooted in the island, with a clear political proposal to build community, defend rights, and consolidate a strong, brave insular left with a governmental ambition.”
