The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital in Lanzarote has launched a programme of live music concerts aimed at emotionally supporting patients, their families, and healthcare professionals. This initiative is in collaboration with the Social Action Association, Acompañar, and is part of the hospital’s commitment to humanising healthcare.
Every two weeks, musicians from the association visit different areas of the hospital to deliver live performances. The concerts primarily take place in the Oncology ward, the Day Hospital for Oncohaematology, and the Paediatric unit, although they sometimes extend to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The hospital emphasises that music not only enhances patients’ moods but also helps reduce stress, alleviates pain, and creates a warmer environment for those undergoing treatment, their families, and the healthcare staff.
In Paediatrics, in addition to the concerts, music therapy sessions are conducted in coordination with the hospital classroom, further reinforcing the positive impact on younger patients during their hospital stays.
“Such actions make the hospital stay more bearable and boost the spirits of everyone,” stated the coordination team at the Day Hospital for Oncohaematology.
Meanwhile, Pablo Eguia, the Manager of Lanzarote Health Services, emphasised that this agreement with the Acompañar Association reflects the hospital’s commitment to holistic care: “It revolves around placing the individual at the centre, attending not only to physical health but also to the emotional well-being of patients and their families.”
