Lanzarote Implements Grants for Non-Profit Entities to Boost Employment Opportunities

The grants, aimed at non-profit organisations, will prioritise innovative projects that promote training, employment integration, and the creation of new opportunities in Lanzarote and La Graciosa

The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote approved the regulatory bases for granting subsidies aimed at developing employment promotion projects on Tuesday. These competitive grants, which will be presented at the next plenary session of the institution, will be directed at non-profit organisations and will help promote initiatives that enhance the employability of the population, particularly vulnerable groups, while encouraging entrepreneurship as a means of creating opportunities.

Areas of Action

The lines of action covered by the regulations include, among others, job insertion programmes, training for young people and those at risk of exclusion, projects for the integration of people with disabilities, and actions supporting local entrepreneurship.

Statements from Officials

The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised that “employment is the most effective tool to ensure equality and economic development, and with these regulations we are providing society with resources that directly impact the improvement of the quality of life of the population of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.”

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Training and Inclusive Employment, Ascensión Toledo, highlighted that the regulations “for the first time establish a stable framework that will allow social entities to apply with innovative and sustainable projects aimed at employability, training, and the labour integration of those who need it most. We are talking about supporting those who, through their daily efforts, work to provide second chances and open pathways to personal and professional autonomy.”

Eligibility Criteria

The regulatory bases stipulate that entities developing projects in Lanzarote and La Graciosa aimed at improving the employability of young people, promoting free training for those at risk of exclusion, favouring the labour integration of individuals with disabilities, and enhancing professional qualifications through guidance and accreditation of acquired skills can benefit from these grants. Additionally, there is a specific line of support for entrepreneurship, which will offer mentoring, training, and comprehensive support to those wishing to launch a business idea on the island.

The subsidies will be awarded through competitive tendering, and calls for applications will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Las Palmas and on the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo. Among the requirements, entities must be legally constituted, not for profit, and have a registered office in Lanzarote or La Graciosa.
