The Lanzarote Cabildo presented the second edition of “Lanzarote en Familia” on Tuesday, a programme that is establishing itself as a training and support space for parents, guardians, and caregivers on the island. Coordinated by the Youth Department headed by Aroa Revelo, this initiative will expand in 2025 with additional sessions and a greater variety of speakers, following the positive reception of the first edition.

The presentation took place in the plenary hall of the Insular Corporation, also featuring Mónica Vargas, representative of the Advanced Physiotherapy Institute of Lanzarote (IFAL), the agency responsible for designing the programme. Furthermore, the project is backed by the Education Department, led by Consejera Ascensión Toledo, reinforcing the interdisciplinary nature of the cycle.

Revelo explained that this new edition aims to “create a close and participatory environment, with top-level experts providing practical resources for the well-being of children and those who care for them.” According to her, the project is designed “to accompany and listen,” while also offering specific training on sensitive parenting topics.

The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised the need to provide families with spaces for guidance and reflection to help them tackle the challenges of work-life balance and parenting. Meanwhile, Ascensión Toledo, the Education Councillor, highlighted that “education and family well-being must be worked on together,” appreciating the initiative as a useful tool for mothers, fathers, and professionals on the island.

A Programme Starting This Saturday

The cycle will take place entirely at the Monument to the Farmer in San Bartolomé, an emblematic location that, according to the organisers, ensures accessibility and comfort. To facilitate participation, each session will offer a free childcare service and a sign language interpreter.

Tickets are priced at a symbolic five euros, available through the Ecoentradas platform. Part of the proceeds will be donated to a local NGO dedicated to supporting children and families, further enhancing the programme’s charitable component.

The “Lanzarote en Familia 2025” agenda will commence this Saturday, 27 September, at 5:00 PM, with two talks from nationally recognised specialists. Paediatrician Gonzalo Pin, a leading expert in sleep medicine, will discuss “Children’s Sleep: What No One Told You.” Following this, lactation expert and co-founder of LactApp, Alba Padró, will present “Weaning, Closing a Chapter: Tips and Resources to Achieve It.”

The cycle will continue on 25 October with the talk “Boundaries that Care: Growing with Rules, Love, and Without Screens,” led by psychologist and communicator Alberto Soler. Finally, the programme will conclude on 29 November with “Being a Malamadre, Balancing Work and Family Without Losing Your Mind,” presented by Laura Baena, founder of the Club de Malasmadres and an advocate for work-life balance.

Organised by the Lanzarote Cabildo through its Youth Department, the project benefits from the collaboration of the Centres for Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT), the Education Department, and the IFAL, among other entities.
