PSOE of Lanzarote Condemns Significant Salary Increase for Tourism Head

Lanzarote PSOE Condemns €25,000 Salary Increase for Tourism Chief Amidst Infrastructure Crisis

The Socialists’ Party (PSOE) of Lanzarote has reported this Monday that Ángel Vázquez, the managing director of the Tourist Centres, has increased his salary by €25,000 from one year to the next, rising from €69,785.37 in 2023 to €94,742.48 in 2024.

Socialist councillor in the Cabildo, Benjamín Perdomo, described this increase as “scandalous and unjustifiable,” emphasising that “there is absolutely no justification for it, especially in an island currently facing a crisis regarding water, housing, and basic services.”

“In just one year, Vázquez, with the complicity of Oswaldo Betancort, has chosen to pocket nearly €25,000 more while families continue to wait for decent housing, while water cuts persist, and while public services remain in disarray. This is an insult to the people of Lanzarote and a clear indication of the priorities of Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party: first their salaries, and then, if there’s anything left, the island,” Perdomo asserted.

The socialist councillor remarked that this pay rise is not an isolated incident but part of a management model characterised by excessive spending on travel, events, and institutional propaganda, which fails to improve the lives of the citizens.

“The Tourist Centres should be a driving force for employment, sustainability, and culture. What we are witnessing is the exact opposite: a fiefdom serving CC and PP, where salaries are raised, expenses escalate, and the public service they are meant to provide is neglected,” Perdomo concluded.
