The Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen women’s Division of Honour Gold team secured a new victory this Saturday at the Pabellón Municipal Celestino Hernández in Tenerife against Club Balonmano Perdoma (15-42) in a match corresponding to the fourth round of the Copa de Canarias, which is the final tournament for the Tiñosero club.

With this triumph, as highlighted by the club in a press release, the Tiñoseras are crowned cup champions after finishing unbeaten, with four victories from four matches, regardless of what happens in the final round in which the Aurinegras will not compete. Meanwhile, Perdoma sits fourth in the standings with two points from one win and two losses in three matches so far.

The match began with an early lead for the visitors and little changed through the game’s progress. Although the Tiñoseras did not deliver an outstanding performance, they reached half-time with a ten-goal advantage (10-20). In the second half, few changes occurred. The score gap widened as the minutes passed. Under the guidance of Jesús Casanova, the team left their Tenerife counterparts with just fifteen goals by the end of the match (15-42).

Yuli Quevedo emerged as the top scorer of the match and for the Tiñoseras with ten goals. Mónica Cabrera also stood out in attack, contributing eight goals to the Tiñoseras’ tally. For the Tenerife team, Nayara Armas scored nine goals, but received little offensive support, as only five players managed to score with below-average figures.

After the match, Aurinegras’ coach, Jesús Casanova, commented, “We are gradually picking up pace. We still have defensive issues, and we have not managed to adjust or achieve the necessary toughness in the centre of our defence. However, once we recover and can defend a bit, our transition to counter-attack is improving. The positional attack, considering we were missing Brenda and Dely, who played only ten minutes due to a back strain, was quite good as well. We have trained for it, and it seems we are slowly increasing our rhythm, but we are still quite concerned about our defensive situation. Now we have a couple of weeks before the start of the season. This week we will reduce the pace a bit as Monday is a holiday and we will give the team some downtime. Our current priority is to recover the three or four players who are injured and continue working hard because we have no other choice. We are still not at the level we want, but I believe that once we face competitive matches in the season, we will step up a notch, which I think is what we currently need to compete effectively,” concluded Toño Cedrés.

Jesús Casanova’s squad will kick off the official women’s Division of Honour Gold competition on 27 September at 20:30 (local time) at the IDM Fuensanta in Córdoba, where they will face Rahi-Sepisur Córdoba.
