Thrilling Victory for Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen in Copa Gobierno de Canarias

Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen Secures Dramatic Win Against Rocasa Gran Canaria in Copa Gobierno de Canarias

The Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen women’s División de Honor Oro team secured a thrilling victory this Saturday at the Pabellón Insular Antonio Moreno, defeating Rocasa Gran Canaria 24-25 in the second round of the Copa Gobierno de Canarias.

Match Overview

According to the club’s press release, the match began favourably for the home side, who built a slight lead as the first half progressed, ending the period with a score of 15-13.

As the second half unfolded, the Tiñoseras improved, gradually closing the gap on the scoreboard. However, the locals responded effectively, restoring their three-goal lead. In the final ten minutes, only one team dominated the court: Puerto del Carmen. They not only reduced the deficit but also managed to take the lead as the match drew to a close.

Despite holding the lead for over fifty minutes, Ricardo Aguilera’s team was left without the taste of victory.

Coach’s Reflection

For the aurinegro coach, Jesús Casanova, this was “another typical pre-season match, with a bit more pace than the previous one. We also played against a stronger opponent than Romade, whom we faced last Saturday. We are starting to see some improvements, but we still need to work on several concepts, particularly defensive toughness. We must significantly increase our intensity, as we lose many matches that way. In terms of the match, Rocasa took the lead from the first minute and always stayed ahead, scoring through counterattacks and penetrations in the centre of our defence. Fortunately, with 10 to 15 minutes remaining, we raised our defensive intensity, managed to steal a few balls, and in the last two minutes, playing with a numerical advantage due to Rocasa’s exclusion, we achieved the equaliser and, in the dying seconds, the victory. We must continue working hard, as we are on the right track. There are some deficiencies we need to overcome gradually. Our next match is on Wednesday against Morro, followed by another in Tenerife on Saturday. Let’s see if we can establish a more positive dynamic after these games. I understand that this is normal during pre-season, with many new players and concepts; it’s a process that takes time to absorb,” concludes the Tiñoseras’ coach.

Top Performers

Local player Susana Martín emerged as the top scorer of the match with seven goals. For the Tiñoseras, Mónica Cabrera and Brenda Torres stood out, each contributing four goals in a well-rounded team effort.

Upcoming Fixtures

The team, under Jesús Casanova, will host Bm. Morro Jable VC in the third round of the Copa Gobierno de Canarias. In their only match played so far, they suffered a defeat against CB Perdoma (32-32). The encounter between Lanzarote and Morro Jable will take place on Wednesday, 10 September, at 17:00, at the Pabellón Municipal de Tías.
