Lanzarote to Host Inaugural Veterinary Congress Aiming to Enhance Animal Welfare

On 19th and 20th September, Lanzarote will host the first Congress for Veterinarians and Veterinary Auxiliaries (ATVs) at the Cabildo.

A Pioneering Gathering

This event will serve as a pioneering meeting point on the island, where professionals will share knowledge and experiences with a singular aim: to improve the lives of animals. As the Councillor for Animal Welfare, I take pride in promoting this congress, but it also resonates deeply on a personal level. At home, we live with three adopted cats, each with their own health challenges.

The Power of Recovery

Witnessing their progress, thanks to our love, patience, and, above all, the essential support from veterinarians and their assistants, has been a constant source of motivation. Each recovery reminds me that adopting is an act of responsibility and love, and that with the right support, we can transform the lives of vulnerable animals.

Promoting Adoption

Thus, whenever I talk about animal welfare, I also think of them and the importance of continuing to promote adoption over purchasing animals.

Strengthening the Support Network

This congress is, indeed, a vital tool to strengthen that network of support. It will allow our professionals to update their knowledge on essential clinical topics ranging from nutrition and ophthalmology to radiology and dermatology. Furthermore, it will provide a platform to reflect on current challenges such as the ethical management of feline colonies and the use of new technologies in veterinary practice.

A Commitment to Animals

My commitment to animals stems from personal experience and is reinforced by public responsibility. I am convinced that Lanzarote should be a leading example in the Canary Islands for the protection and care of animals, and this congress is a crucial step towards achieving that goal.

Building a Compassionate Society

For when we speak of animal welfare, we also speak of humanity, values, and the kind of society we wish to build.
