Maritime Emergency Plan Downgraded Following Fishing Vessel Incident in Lanzarote

The Ministry of Transport has maintained the National Maritime Plan along the coast of Lanzarote following the spill caused by a Moroccan fishing vessel that ran aground and caught fire near Órzola. However, it has downgraded the situation from emergency to alert.

According to reports from the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas to EFE, this decision is based on the favourable evolution of the situation, with observations indicating that the presence of diesel from the fishing vessel in the sea is barely noticeable.

The fishing vessel ran aground early Wednesday morning along the Haría coastline, near the village of Órzola. It is estimated that it had departed from Morocco with approximately 5,500 litres of diesel on board, but much of the remaining fuel was consumed in the subsequent fire.
