Municipal Space Recovered in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Judicially Approved Operation

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, through the Heritage Service of the Department of Presidency, Finance, Modernisation, and Human Resources, led by Francisco Hernández Spínola, has successfully reclaimed a municipal space this week. This space was previously occupied illegally for several years in the former Carlos Navarro Ruiz school.

The operation, as detailed in a council statement, was conducted following the necessary judicial authorisation. On Thursday, heritage, cleaning, and animal protection staff, along with six agents from the Special Unit – Operational Intervention and Support Group (UE-GOIA), attended the location to execute the procedure.

Completion of Recovery Process

Councillor Francisco Hernández Spínola explained that this intervention marks the conclusion of the administrative and judicial process initiated to regain possession of the building, after the voluntary eviction notices were ignored by the individual occupying it.

On Friday, municipal cleaning workers undertook the clearing of the property and the removal of accumulated items and belongings from within.

Hernández Spínola emphasised that since the beginning of the current mandate, the governing group has been implementing administrative and judicial measures to recover public spaces, as has been done in other locations, including the Aula de la Naturaleza Fuente Morales.
