Festivities in Honour of San Francisco Javier Kick Off in Las Pocetas

The festivities in honour of San Francisco Javier in Las Pocetas commenced with an emotional start, showcasing a sense of community pride. The celebrations were inaugurated by Auxiliadora Cabrera Méndez, who delivered a heartfelt speech filled with familial memories closely tied to the village’s history and traditions. Her address, which highlighted significant moments and key figures in the locality’s life, was met with a standing ovation from attendees. Cabrera was also presented with a bouquet of flowers and a commemorative plaque by the mayor, Matías Peña García, and the Councillor for Festivities, Pedro M. Armas Martín.

The evening progressed in a festive atmosphere, featuring tastings of traditional dishes such as paella and garbanzada, along with live music provided by Laly Lean, who encouraged everyone to continue the celebrations.

The festive programme offers a variety of activities scheduled for the coming days. This Friday, Scala en HiFi will take place, along with performances by Siroko and singer Flor. On Saturday afternoon, the traditional pilgrimage will commence at 18:00, welcoming attendees at the church with the local troupe Parranda La Serena, followed by a night fiesta featuring the bands Gente Nueva and N-Klave.

Sunday will be dedicated to the children, who can enjoy games, bouncy castles, and foam cannons in the village square. The following week, on Wednesday 27th August, there will be a procession in honour of San Francisco Javier, accompanied by the bands Monte Janana and the group from the Senior Centre in Antigua.

Both the Festival Committee and the Council for Festivities emphasise that, without the need for excessive measures, the programme aims to ensure enjoyment, community bonding, and the preservation of the customs that make Las Pocetas a special place for both residents and visitors.
