Laura Vega to Present Conference “Weaving Emotions Through Music” at El Almacén

On Tuesday 9th September at 19:30, the cultural space El Almacén in Arrecife (Lanzarote) will host the conference “Weaving Emotions Through Music”, delivered by the Canarian composer Laura Vega. Admission is free and open to all.

This event is part of the series “Creative Processes in Art”, organised by the Department of Plastic Arts of the Government of the Canary Islands in collaboration with the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

A Look at the Musical Creative Process

During the talk, Laura Vega will reflect on the creative process she follows in her compositions, from the initial inspiration to the final score presented to the audience. The composer will explain how she decides on musical structures, harmonies, melodies, rhythms, and textures, highlighting the importance of collaboration with performers.

The conference will also explore the relationship between music and other artistic disciplines such as literature, painting, and dance, illustrated with examples from her own body of work. Additionally, excerpts from her compositions for piano, chamber music, and symphonic orchestra will be performed.

Who is Laura Vega

Born in Gran Canaria in 1978, Laura Vega is a composer and educator, with over seventy musical works in her repertoire, including concertos for oboe, piano, percussion, and guitar.

She studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Las Palmas and furthered her education in Madrid. In 2016, she earned her doctorate from the University of La Laguna. Laura has served as president of the Promuscan Association (2008-2011), is a member of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts, and has taught at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias. She currently teaches at the Professional Conservatory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
