Lidl to Open New Store in Costa Teguise This Friday

The German supermarket chain Lidl will open its new store in Costa Teguise this Friday, 22 August, specifically located at Calle Las Piteras 201B, as announced by the company in a statement to the media.

With a sales area of more than 1,700 square metres, the establishment will “offer a comfortable and modern shopping experience, providing customers with a wide range of fresh, packaged, and private label products.”

Lidl has invested more than €8.8 million in this project, which has involved local companies. In its commitment to creating wealth and quality employment, the new store will employ a team of 29 people, bringing the total number of employees on the island of Lanzarote to 200. Lidl already has a network of six stores across the municipalities of Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Yaiza, Puerto del Carmen, and Teguise.

According to Carlos Martínez, regional director of Lidl in the Canary Islands, “We are very pleased to open our sixth store in Lanzarote, doubling our presence on the island in just one year. This new opening reflects our strong commitment to the Canary Islands and our dedication to being closer to our customers every day.”

To enhance the shopping experience for customers, the new store will open every day from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM and features a large car park with approximately 150 spaces, four of which are equipped with charging points for electric vehicles.

The new centre has been constructed following the chain’s sustainability standards and includes other energy efficiency measures such as LED lighting and a photovoltaic installation, which will allow it to generate up to 25% of its energy consumption.

Close to a Hundred Local Suppliers

The German company collaborates with around one hundred Canary Island suppliers, from whom it purchased goods last year valued at approximately €100 million.

In this way, Lidl consolidates its role as a strategic platform for the growth of the local agricultural sector, promoting Canary Island products across its network of 39 stores spanning five islands, where customers can find items produced in the Canaries throughout the year, such as fruits and vegetables – tomatoes, bananas, potatoes, papaya, red sweet potatoes from Lanzarote – meat, fish, dairy products, wines, snacks, and a wide selection of plants.
