Seismic Activity Near Fuerteventura

A magnitude 2.9 earthquake was recorded at midday, approximately 15 kilometres off the coast of El Cotillo, on the island of Fuerteventura.

There has been no information indicating that the tremor was felt by the local population. However, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has stated that such events are normal in this region of the archipelago.

Reassurance Amidst Increased Seismic Activity

As a result, the IGN has offered reassurance to the islanders, even in light of the ongoing seismic swarm in Tenerife. This swarm does not carry the same implications as previous ones, such as those preceding the Tajogaite eruption in La Palma.
