The meeting will take place this Thursday, 18th September, at 6:30 PM at the Convento de Santo Domingo in Teguise
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Hunting Area, has summoned the Lanzarote Hunters’ Society and the hunting community in general to a meeting this Thursday, 18th September, at 6:30 PM at the Convento de Santo Domingo in Teguise.
As highlighted by the Councillor for Hunting, Samuel Martín, “the aim of this meeting is to hear the claims and concerns of the sector and to analyse the current situation following the temporary closure decree regarding hunting in the municipality of Haría, due to cases of poisoning detected by the Environmental agents of the Cabildo.”
It is worth noting that following the discovery of several dead specimens of the endangered species Canary Raven (Corvus corax canariensis) in Guinate, the Government of the Canary Islands recommended that the Cabildo of Lanzarote extend the provisional suspension of hunting activities in Haría until the corresponding analytical results are obtained.
While hunting activities continue as normal across the rest of the island, in accordance with the decisions made at the last Insular Hunting Council, intensive fieldwork and surveillance continues in the municipality of Haría.
“Nevertheless,” Samuel Martín points out, “the Cabildo understands the concerns of hunters in Haría, although this temporary closure will be compensated by extending the hunting ban in the northern area to prevent harm to the community.”
“However,” the Councillor adds, “we have called this meeting at the request of the Hunters’ Society, to listen to the claims of the hunting sector, assess the current situation, and discuss new strategies that mitigate the impact of this measure on the hunters of Lanzarote.”
