One of the last individuals to see Jay Slater alive has mysteriously returned to the Airbnb in Tenerife from where the teenager disappeared, after refusing to give evidence in the investigation into his death.
Stephen Roccas, known as Rocky, was staying in the remote mountain cabin at Masca with Jay Slater and convicted drug dealer Ayub Qassim, 31, on the night the 19-year-old vanished in the woods, according to the Daily Mail.
While Qassim provided a statement via video link, Roccas categorically refused to participate, despite multiple attempts to summon him as a witness.
Now, in an action described as “abhorrent” by Jay’s devastated mother, Debbie Duncan, Roccas has posted a nine-second video of himself standing in front of the same cabin where Jay was last seen alive.
Wearing a West Ham T-shirt, Roccas captures the same mountain view that Jay Slater saw before he disappeared, adding only the caption: “Views,” along with two fire emojis and one of a mountain.
The clip, shared on social media earlier this month, featured a song entitled “25 Squares” by rapper Big Bank and has ignited a furious backlash online, prompting further questions regarding Roccas’s decision to remain silent during the investigation.
One follower commented: “What are you trying to prove, Rocky? Isn’t this in poor taste?” while another added: “This is a bit sick.”
Roccas did not respond to the criticism, instead replying to each comment with a single questioning emoji.
When informed about the footage, Jay Slater’s mother, Debbie, stated: “What is he trying to do? Rub this in our faces? Why has he gone back there? What is he trying to prove? I don’t understand.”
Jay had been invited to the Airbnb by Qassim and Roccas, and spent the night with them at the rural rental in Masca.
The apprentice builder later informed the two men that he was heading back to his hotel, but he never arrived. His body was found in a ravine by rescue teams nearly a month later.
